Oversized shipments
This type of transport requires special equipment, organization, skills, and last but not least – a permit from the Road Infrastructure Agency (API). The sign representing an “Oversized Road Vehicle” is rectangular in shape, featuring parallel slanted red and white reflective stripes with the inscription “Oversized” in black. These signs are placed at the front and rear of the oversized vehicle or the one carrying oversized cargo, as well as on the accompanying escort vehicle.
Permits
A key factor in organizing this type of transport is the information provided by the client. The client must also indicate where the center of gravity of the cargo is, in order to determine the correct securing points. There are cases where the client places supports or fasteners without informing the carrier, which may change the dimensions of the load. The consequences may involve issuing new permits, and sometimes even determining an alternative route if the cargo has become too high to pass under a bridge. This type of transport is subject to strict control, especially when crossing border checkpoints. Any discrepancy between the initially declared cargo dimensions and the actual load may require changes such as using a different type of vehicle or route.
Route selection
The route is chosen based on the size and weight of the cargo, ensuring that the vehicle can pass without issues. Possible obstacles include sharp turns, utility poles, narrow sections, low bridges, or railway crossings. Every single factor in transporting oversized cargo is of critical importance without exception.
Why?
Because anyone can transport regular cargo, but not everyone can move oversized cargo safely from point A to point B!
