Logistics-origin
The term “logistics” originates from the ancient Greek words λόγος [logos] – word, account, reasoning, and λογιστικός [logistikos] – the ability to reason and calculate. In the Roman Empire, logistics was associated with supplying the army, as well as storage and transportation. Logistics as a science and as a business tool in civil relations began to take shape in the early 1950s. Its development is closely tied to the history and evolution of market relations in industrialized countries.
Warehouse logistics plays an important and essential role in the transportation of groupage shipments. Every week, goods from across the country are collected and stored, and at the end of the week (Friday/Saturday), international groupage trucks depart regularly for export. In this way, more space is freed in the company’s warehouse facilities. For imports of groupage shipments, the role of logistics is to store goods unloaded from international trucks and arrange delivery to the client’s address as requested.
Overall, logistics is a set of activities aimed at ensuring that goods arrive at the right time, in the right quantity, in the required quality, at the right place, and at minimum cost. Simply put, logistics is about optimizing the delivery of goods.
