Load securing
The proper distribution and securing of cargo are of crucial importance for its safe and reliable transportation. Before the loading process begins, the driver must ensure that the trailer floor is clean and dry. During loading, it is recommended that the driver remain in a safe area near the vehicle and provide assistance if necessary. In this regard, truck drivers undergo a professional competence course for road freight transport, where they acquire knowledge about the types of cargo, their proper distribution, and effective securing methods.
The most commonly used securing devices for full loads are lashing straps. They prevent spontaneous sliding or falling of the cargo. Lashing straps consist of a strong textile webbing (usually polyester), a tensioning mechanism (ratchet), and end hooks.
Rubber anti-slip mats are also widely used in cargo securing, as they provide maximum grip and help prevent the load from sliding.
Another widely used securing aid is corner protectors. They protect the straps from abrasion and allow them to be attached more securely to the cargo.
For groupage (LTL) shipments, the most commonly used devices are load bars or dunnage boards, which can be wooden beams or metal profiles. These are also placed as horizontal partitions inside the trailer, which facilitates the positioning of groupage barriers and strengthens the overall structure.
