What we need to know about refrigerated transport – partial or complete.

Refrigerated transport is associated with the transportation and logistics of frozen and perishable foods, pharmaceuticals, and other temperature-sensitive goods.

Typically, the storage and transportation temperature in refrigerated transport ranges between -18°C and +25°C. If necessary, during specialized transport the temperature may temporarily rise by no more than 3°C for short periods.

Quick-frozen foods

Quick-frozen foods are subjected to freezing in the fastest possible way. The temperature of such foods is no higher than -18°C. Exceptions include foods such as ice cream and others that contain ice for food purposes.

Requirements for the transportation of refrigerated goods

Use of the necessary equipment to maintain the optimal temperature to preserve the quality and safety of the food.

Use of recording measuring devices to monitor the temperature inside the vehicles.

Chilled food products:

  • Poultry meat
  • Red meat
  • Game meat
  • Fish
  • Seafood
  • Dairy products
  • Flowers
  • Eggs, etc.

Non-food products transported by refrigerated transport:

  • Pharmaceutical products
  • Medical supplies

The devices used to measure temperature during transportation are called thermographs. Another term used for such devices is temperature loggers.

Method of recording temperature values:

  • on thermal paper
  • in internal memory

The installation of thermographs can be carried out:

  • Inside the refrigerated truck body, where the recording is done with a built-in or connected probe
  • In the driver’s cabin; in this case, only the probe itself is placed inside the refrigerated truck body.

The temperature range that can be measured by thermographs is from minus 50°C to plus 80°C. In simpler models, the measurement range goes down to minus 30°C. These models are suitable for measuring the temperature of transported food products, since the lower temperature limit of such products is usually minus 20°C.

Additionally, thermographs can be set to record the exact time when the refrigerated truck body will be closed. Digital thermographs record not only the hours of temperature measurement but also the dates.
