Innovation and intermodal solutions

Bulgaria’s favorable geographical location is the biggest advantage for the development of the country’s transport sector. Bulgaria is ready to embrace any kind of innovation that can contribute to its prosperity. For this reason, Plovdiv became the first city in the country to have an intermodal terminal built – Zlatitrap – in line with EU policy.

The terminal is located at Todor Kableshkov Station, which is part of the Plovdiv railway junction and lies on the Sofia–Plovdiv main railway line. The station consists of a terminal yard, a container storage yard, designated areas for refrigerated cargo units, an administrative building for customer service, a building for customs control and a customs warehouse, as well as parking areas for both freight and passenger vehicles.

The presence of such a terminal is of great importance for the region in many aspects – it has created many jobs, which has raised the standard of living of the population around the terminal. It has also boosted local businesses, thereby contributing to the municipal budgets.

This type of transport contributes to the development of railway infrastructure, which is the most environmentally friendly mode, producing the least harmful emissions. On the other hand, it enhances the quality of transport services provided in Bulgaria.

Thanks to its strategic location and willingness to develop and implement innovations, Bulgaria is a strong partner in the transport sector for all European countries.
