ELECTRONIC TOLL SYSTEM IN BULGARIA
The launch of the system for electronic toll collection based on distance traveled on the paid road network—simply called the electronic toll system—is forthcoming.
The toll fee will be determined by several factors: primarily the road class, distance traveled, vehicle category, emission class, and the number of axles of the vehicle.
According to the requirements of the electronic toll system, toll fees must be paid by drivers of vehicles with a permissible maximum weight of over 3.5 tons.
Once the toll payment procedure has been successfully completed, each driver may travel on all first-class roads that are part of the road network of the Republic of Bulgaria.
The device will record and transmit in real time the fees owed for the distance traveled on the national transport network.
How the device works:
- No installation is required — the device plugs directly into the 12/24V socket of the vehicle.
- The device menu supports 8 languages (Bulgarian, English, Romanian, Greek, Serbian, German, Russian, Turkish).
- The device software will be updated automatically.
- Online connectivity.
- From the device menu, the driver can also change or adjust the number of trailer axles according to regulatory requirements.
Underground weighing scales within the toll system will calculate the weight and load of the vehicle in real time. Video cameras will register the number of axles. Sensors embedded in the road lanes will calculate the axle load of vehicles. In case of irregularities or overloading, the system will automatically send information to the control authorities.
